Q: How can an Independent fight major political parties?
A: (a) In 2004, without any manpower, party workers or organizational support, Bhatia got 60,000 votes in a few weeks of campaigning. This clearly shows that the major parties can be defeated if good people unite to support an honest candidate. This time we will be prepared.

(c) 65% of Pune is the educated middle class. If they decide to vote for an independent candidate he can easily win.

Q: Bhatia has no experience in politics
A: He has spent 35 years in public life in the IAS out of which 8 years have been spent in the United Nations in managing rural development projects in developing countries (Nepal, Bangla Desh, Maldives, Mayanmar, Sri Lanka, Laos, Viet Nam, Botswana). He has more experience than most politicians.

Q: What can one man do?
A: (a) He cannot change India but he can change Pune. The focus will be on transforming Pune into a modern city by organizing citizens to monitor the administration (water supply for all without exception, slum rehabilitation, river cleaning commencement, sewage treatment, improvement of roads and public transport, upgrading public hospitals, teaching of English in slums, facilitating industry etc.). A parallel, citizen based governance mechanism consisting of powerful citizen committees will be set up to control govt. departments, including the police. Erring officials will be prosecuted by citizens. (b) PMC funds will be brought under citizen control and honestly spent.

(c) The MP’s salary will be used to set up a citizens’ grievance cell.

(d) Regular monthly progress reports will be given by the MP

(e) The MP’s fund of 10 crores will be spent with citizen consultation

(f) Ask why political parties have not improved Pune in 50 years!

Q: Why vote for Bhatia?
A: (a) He has the best track record of fighting corruption for 35 years. Politicians have to be objectively judged by their track records. See web site: www.arunbhatiaelect.org

(b) Voting for corrupt people just because they belong to political parties and are likely to win means you want the corrupt to win and you are making them win. Democracy is meant to prevent corruption but you are saying you vote for corruption in order to make democracy function.
